Movies

Cinema Paradiso(Nuovo Cinema Paradiso) – One of my favorite movies at all times.

It has great music too – I like Yo-Yo Ma and Chris Botti.

Departures (おくりびと, Okuribito) is a 2008 Japanese film. It won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2009 Oscars. This is one of my top 5 favorites. It’s about life/career change, love and death–simple, deep and humorous.

Music by Joe Hisaishi. Thank you for composing such heart-touching music that I cry every time when listening to it. Here is him with London Symphony Orchestra.

My Neighbor Totoro  is my favorite children’s movie. Its music is great too.

Before Sunrise (and another scene)

I always wish to have a first date like this: deep conversations and true connection with someone. I like the sequel Before Sunset as well. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are very good and it’s so natural between them that they were like not acting at all. These movies are cute, simple and not the Hollywood type. Actually I own both DVDs–my favorite romance movies of all time. The third one, Before Midnight, is coming out in 2013.

Strictly Ballroom is my favorite dancing movie. It’s the second call for me to dance after ABBA’s Dancing Queen, but I only bought the video in 1993.

Movies about food:

Barbie’s Feast is pretty good, but I cannot find it at YouTube.

Like Water For Chocolate  –Food contains energy and can create miracles.

Ratatouille

I cooked Ratatouille after watching the movie. Now I can cook the Italian version of Ratatouille too. They all taste great. See my recipe under Health (coming soon).
